A.
Mathematics and science.
In the 500
B.C, the philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras
was born in the island of Samson
in the Aegean sea , wrote everything
that could explain or expressed
numbers. He he is probably known for the
pythogorean theorem, geometric theory
that states that the square of the
hypotenuse of the right triangle equals the sum of the two other sides.
The greeks
of Golden age aslo made advance in
science . However , Greek scientific achievement did not develop fully until a
later period. Aristotle laid the foundation
for the development of
botany , zoology, an antonym. The Greek
philosopher Democritus
believed that moving atoms can be divided but they still accept the theory that all matter consists of atoms.
One of the greatest scientist
of Golden Age was Hippocrates and was considered as the founder
of medicine , he taught that all diseases
comes from natural causes , not
punishment from the gods. He
believed that rest, fresh air, an a
proper diet made the best cures.
B. HISTORY
The Greek became the first
people to take writing of history seriously . Herodotus , an enthusiastic traveller
and the first great
historian of the
western word , visited
Babylonia , Phoenicia , and Egypt
. He included his impression in this countries and their people in his
histories. A fascinating writer
and a wonderful
story teller exaggerated
at time, but always carefully
distinguished between the things
he had personally seen or
investigated and those he had been told.
He often expressed doubt about
legends but reported for
whatever they were worth. Another Greek historian , Thucydides became famous for
his history Peloponnesian war . he Wanted
his account of history to
reflect his belief that
studying the past yield
an understanding of human nature. He
hoped that his scientific approach
to history would serve as a guide
for future political leader.
C .DRAMA
The first people to write drama or plays were the Greeks. They also wrote
plays containing actions and dialogues
and usually involving conflict and emotion . They excelled
in this form of lecture and also
wrote play in form of poetic
form and two or three actors and a chorus
or a group of singers and dancers
who
described the scene, spoke or sung the lines in front of audience. Reflecting the
idea of harmony with natures the Greeks
carved outdoor theatre
in hillside noted for
beauty and serenity. The Greeks
frequently build seats for the audience into the slopes of the hiilside
D . COMEDIES.
Comedies
originated from Greek as a result of the
festival honouring Dionysus, mocked ideas and people the comedian usually introduced
both tragic and comic figures.
Unlike their counter parts in tragedies, however , the central characters in comedies succeeded
in solving problems. No person or institution could escape the wit of Aristophanes the greatest Greek writer of comedies . In
the clouds he poked fun at Socrates for his theories about educating the youth. He aslo disliked warn
and used comedy to make antheTnians think about its cause and sequences. He also
practised gender balance by
through his plays whereby women controlled the government persuaded
their husband to make peace during war,
2. CULTURE.
E. The culture
of Egyptians.
They created great monuments to their
gods and rulers . These monuments included
the great Sphinx near Gaza and
the pyramids, designed as
tombs for the pharaohs . In addition to larger scale works , sculptors and also made small, lifelike statures
of the king and scared animals from
copper, bronze and stone or wood. They
also developed an accurate calendar
with 12 months of 30 days each.
This system left them with five extra
days, which they used for holidays and feasting. They also developed a number system based on 10, used in geometry, made significance
advances in medicine, and developed an excellent system. They also have funeral
mask of the pharaoh on of the most beautiful treasure in the world
which is said to be of pharaoh
Tutankhamen. The discovery of this tomb in 1992 captured the imagination of people around the
world. What was extraordinary about
the find was that the tombs treasure had not been stolen . the tomb contained more than 500 works of art that revealed
many aspects of Egyptian life. The mask of pharaoh was made of beaten gold inlaid with jewels and coloured
glasses. It shows Tutankhamen as a the most handsome youth he was when he
died more than 3200 years ago at the age
of 18. The decorative beard on the mask is a symbol of Osiris the god of
the dead. On the headless a symbol of
the vulture and cobra godess which represent upper and lower Egypt.
